Downers Grove Republican to take on Durbin
SPRINGFIELD — Downers Grove Republican Doug Truax said Monday he wants to take on Democratic U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin in the 2014 Senate race.
Truax is a businessman who hasn’t held elected office, and it’s unclear if he’ll face an opponent in the spring GOP primary.
The West Point graduate seeks to tie Durbin and his leadership role in the U.S. Senate to Illinois’ sluggish economic rebound.
“At West Point, one of the first things they taught us is that you change battlefield strategies if they continually fail,” Truax said in a statement.
Durbin, who has said he wants to run for re-election, could be a tough opponent, though. In 2008, Durbin beat suburban doctor Steve Saurberg by netting nearly 68 percent of the vote.
Truax, 43, is a co-owner Veritas Risk Services in Oak Brook and served as chairman of the board for Almost Home Kids, a Naperville and Chicago charity.
