Amateur and professional bakers are invited to make a creation for Gail Borden Public Library's annual Edible Book Festival. Registration is open until Aug. 5. Participants will create an edible book that will be on display Aug. 17-18. The creation can be in the shape of a book, or based on a favorite tale or be a pun on a famous title. Prizes will be awarded for the children/teen, horror/mystery and wildlife categories in three groups: families (includes ages 9 and younger), ages 10 to 16 and ages 17 and older. Register at the main library, 270 N. Grove Ave. in Elgin, or the Rakow Branch, 2751 W. Bowes Road in Elgin, and receive a free cake board to display the creation on. Info: (847) 742-2411.
