ALA promotes Veterans History program

The American Legion Auxiliary Veterans Assistance Chairman LaVera Davis

promotes the Veterans History Project.

LaVera, a Past Division President and the American Legion Auxiliary Unit #281 Chairman had nine Veterans from the Homer Dahringer Post #281 describe their military stories, which are videotaped, typed by court reports , copies and sent to the Library of Congress for public viewing.

The idea is to keep our American history alive and open for public viewing of the person own accounts of their military service in WWI, WWII, the war in Korea, Vietnam, the Persian Gulf and the conflicts in Afghanistan and Iraq.

All branches of the service were welcomed and included. They are asked biographic questions, how the veteran entered the service, wartime service, war's end and coming home memories and their reflection how wartime experiences affected their life.

These stories are from the veterans who gave us our freedom.

Those who participated were John Davis, William Dowden Jr., Ed Huesing, Walt Givler, Charles Mc Bride, Malcolm Layson, Jeremiah Lapish, Ben Hale and Linda Hale. All received a participation pin and enjoyed breakfast.

The veterans written memoirs, letters and photographs are also welcome.

The Veterans History Project collects and preserves the remembrances of the American war veterans and civilian workers who supported them.

These collections of first-hand accounts are archived in the American Folklife Center at the Library of Congress for use by researchers and to serve as an inspiration for generations to come. It is made available to the general public, both at the Library in Washington, D.C. and via the VHP website.
