Daily Herald report

A female bicyclist who was killed by a car Tuesday morning whole crossing Higgins Road at the exit ramp from northbound Route 53 has been identified.

A spokeswoman from the Cook County medical examiner's office said the victim was Rosaleen Waters, 46, of Elk Grove Village.

Reports from witnesses differed as to whether the driver had exited the ramp and turned east or had been driving on Higgins, said Illinois State Trooper Douglas Yorke. He said a reconstruction expert would have to determine the path of the car, and officers would also interview the driver of the car.

It also was not clear from witnesses' accounts whether the bicyclist had a walk signal. She was crossing Higgins in a southerly direction and stopped at the median, then started again, Yorke said.

The collision was reported at 9:06 a.m.

Waters was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village, where she was pronounced dead.
