South Elgin names Bowman new soccer coach

South Elgin High School Monday named Nathaniel Bowman to take over as the school’s new boys soccer coach.

Bowman was born in Berwyn but his family moved to Barcelona, Spain when he was 5 and he began playing soccer shortly thereafter. At 17, Bowman was seen by a semipro coach in Spain who asked him to play for his team, which Bowman did for one year before returning to the U.S. and attending Wheaton College.

His freshman year at Wheaton, he was part of an NCAA Division III national championship team and then played again in the title game his senior season.

Bowman currently teaches Spanish and coaches soccer at Abbott Middle School in Elgin. He lives in Bartlett.

Bowman takes over for John Uveges, who stepped down after last season.
