Two businesses to call West Dundee home

West Dundee is getting ready to welcome two new businesses to town — a furniture store and a gift shop.

American Eagle Furniture is set to open April 1 inside Spring Hill Mall, into a space west of Kohl’s that had been occupied by the Home Furniture Mart.

Home Furniture Mart closed in January after being at the mall since 2011, according to Community Development Director Kathleen Tymoszenko.

Sam Mustafa, the owner of American Eagle Furniture, has another location at Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg and is eager to expand his business to West Dundee.

“I thought the area has a very good potential for my contemporary style furniture and the classic furniture as well, so I’m hoping to have a successful business there,” Mustafa said.

Besides furniture, the store will also sell carpeting and home accessories.

“We’re pleased that he’s expanding his business at Spring Hill Mall,” Tymoszenko said. “It’s expected to bring in good tax dollars. These kinds of items usually have a higher price point.”

Mustafa said he has completed the permitting process with West Dundee and just needs to move in.

Nearby Tartans Crossing on Huntley Road will soon feature the Something 4 U gift shop, which will offer candy, purses, gifts for pets, children’s gifts, vintage and antique glass and kitchen wear, cards and some food items.

“It’s going to be a fun little gift shop,” owner Josie Pucci said. “I just wanted a little something for everybody. I don’t want anybody to come there and be bored.”

Pucci, who hopes to open May 1, now does business at the State Street Markets in Elgin — her two shops there are Past to Present Treasures and Pretty Pals. She will close them before opening her new business.

Pucci said being laid off from her job as an operations manager was a blessing because it allowed her the time she needs to focus on growing her business in her hometown. Her success in Elgin also prompted her to expand.

“It’s something I’ve always wanted to do ... it’s been a dream of mine,” Pucci said.

West Dundee officials are excited to have her.

“We’re really thrilled that she’s coming here,” Tymoszenko said. “It will be complimentary to the other successful businesses over there.”
