Chamber teams up with police, bank for self-defense class

The Lindenhurst-Lake Villa Chamber of Commerce announce a new self-defense training class for Lake Villa, Lindenhurst, and Lake Villa Township residents.

The chamber is conducting the class in conjunction with Lake Villa and Lindenhurst police departments and First American Bank, Lake Villa.

The class is a hands-on approach to crime prevention and awareness taught by police officers from both communities. The officers are certified trainers in self-defense and will teach residents about personal awareness, how to be a good witness, and how to not be a crime victim.

The class is open to residents ages 18 and older and will include classroom time and hands-on training in self-defense. There will be some physical exercise. The communities have taken a proactive approach to give citizens an approachable setting to interact with police officers.

The class will be held at First American Bank, 500 E. Grand Ave. Two dates are currently scheduled: Tuesday, April 30, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Saturday, May 18, from 1 to 3 p.m. More classes may be added at a later date.

There is no charge for the class and will be offered on a first-come, first-serve basis.

Interested parties can go to the Lindenhurst-Lake Villa Chamber of Commerce website for a registration form or contact the chamber. A form of identification will be requested at the door on the day of the class.
