Police investigating death of Lake in the Hills teen

Crystal Lake police continue to investigate the death of a Lake in the Hills teen who died at a Crystal Lake home Sunday.

Stephanie R. Chiakas, 17, was a junior at Crystal Lake South High School.

The McHenry County coroner’s office declined to comment on a cause of death until a news release is issued sometime Wednesday.

Crystal Lake police also declined to comment, citing her age and an ongoing investigation.

Chiakas’ obituary described her as “very mature and creative for her age, was known for her leadership and cooking skills, loving and responsible nature, and her love for animals and gardening.”

Chiakas is survived by her parents Kenneth Chiakas of Des Plaines and Sheri Chiakas of Lake in the Hills, as well as her sister, Alicia, of Lake in the Hills.

A visitation is scheduled from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, March 14, at Davenport Family Funeral Home, 419 E. Terra Cotta Ave., Crystal Lake. A funeral will take place at 11 a.m. Friday followed by burial at All Saints Cemetery in Des Plaines.
