Libertyville senior Olivia Mayer has announced that she'll continue her education and both lacrosse and basketball careers at Augustana University in Rock Island.

On the lacrosse field last spring, Mayer shared Libertyville's MVP award and earned first team All-North Suburban Conference honors. The 5-foot 5 attacker/midfielder led coach Katie Lettinga's Wildcats in goals (67), points (76) and interceptions (16) and was second in draw controls (45). Her interception total ranked third in the state and she was seventh in goals per game, 12th in goals, 14th in points and 17th in draw controls. She also collected 32 ground balls for a 10-7 Libertyville squad.

During her sophomore season, Mayer helped the Wildcats to a fourth-place state finish, scoring 31 goals and collecting 56 ground balls.

Also a standout on the basketball court, Mayer was a two-year starter for the Wildcats. She was a team captain and was named All-North Suburban Conference. She was an all-tournament selection at this year's Mundelein Holiday Classic, as well.

Mayer, the daughter of Kim and John Mayer of Green Oaks, also competed in cross country at Libertyville and was a three-time winner of the school's athletic achievement award as a three-sport athlete. She was a two-time North Suburban Conference all-academic selection and earned the NSC's academic achievement award in the spring of 2012. Mayer's community service projects include Feed My Starving Children and the Waukegan Soup Kitchen. A Libertyville honor roll and National Honor Society member, she's planning on a psychology or sociology major at Augustana.

Mayer joins a Viking lacrosse program that completed its first season of intercollegiate competition in 2012. Augustana finished with a 15-3 record and led the nation in both scoring offense and scoring margin. After competing as an independent last year, the Vikings join the Midwest Women's Lacrosse Conference for the 2013 season.
