Sportmen to make jerky for troops in Marengo

Submitted by Northwest Towns Sportsmen’s Club

The Northwest Towns Sportsmen’s Club will hold its “Jerky for Troops 2013” from 5 to 9:30 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 19.

They have a special night planned at Wayne’s Meat Market, 801 W. Grant Hwy. (Route 20) in Marengo. They will meet there at 5 p.m. to begin getting the project set up. By 6:30 p.m., they will begin shooting jerky. Feel free to show up whenever you can. They will have all of the products, gloves and equipment necessary to create and package the jerky. They just need your support.

In an effort to support Wayne’s Meat Market owner Roger Brandt for his support to the project, the club is going to roll out his 10-square foot charcoal grill and cook some serious meats. Everyone is invited to purchase something right off his shelf and toss it on the grill. He has a great selection of just about every meat you can think. Plan on taking something home as well.

There also will be support from Safari Club of Illinois, SCI. They have joined the sportsmen club in a team effort to make this project more successful than ever. Plan on being at the event for great food, charity work and meeting some of the SCI club.
