Registered sex offender arrested at Carol Stream school

A registered sex offender was arrested in Carol Stream for attending children’s after-school activities with his girlfriend and her daughter, authorities said.

Michael P. Infelise, 29, of the 1300 block of Terry Road in Glendale Heights, was arrested Wednesday at Heritage Lakes Elementary School and charged with one felony count of presence within a school zone by a sex offender.

Carol Stream police Cmdr. Tom Miller said authorities received reports a few weeks ago from parents that Infelise was attending the extracurricular activities, which are sponsored by the Carol Stream Park District. Infelise’s girlfriend’s daughter was participating in the events.

“People had seen his picture on the website for sex offenders and they believed it was him,” Miller said.

After receiving those reports, police waited several times to see if he returned to the school, but it wasn’t until Wednesday that he did and police were able to make an arrest, Miller said.

Infelise was taken into custody without incident and no children were in jeopardy during the arrest, he said.

Infelise was arrested and charged in 2003 with two counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse, and he was convicted two years later. The victim was 15 at the time and Infelise was 20, according to the Illinois Sex Offender Registration website.

He served four years in prison.

Infelise was transported to the DuPage County jail and was being held on a bail of $150,000, of which he needs to post 10 percent to be released.
