Palatine is Chicago Sky team of the week
The Chicago Sky has named the Palatine High School varsity girls basketball team as this week’s 2013 Chicago Sky Girls High School Basketball Team of the Week, presented by Under Armour.
With a veteran team consisting of only one freshman, two sophomores and the rest juniors and seniors, the Pirates of coach Leslie Schock have shown they can succeed on and off the court.
Palatine, which plays in the Mid Suburban West is currently 19-7 overall this season. The Pirates have matched their on-court success off the court as well, showing that they are committed to helping the community with their recent volunteer work.
The Pirates have demonstrated they are willing and capable of making a difference for others as they work in their local community to fight childhood hunger. On Jan. 22, the girls basketball players and family members volunteered at a not-for-profit organization called Feed My Starving Children; an organization that operates on donor funding and volunteer workers to feed children in over 70 countries. The Pirates packed over 29 cases of food, which equates to 6,264 meals for children. After undertaking this experience for the first time, the team has committed to return to assist the foundation in creating and packing more cases for kids in need.
As a Chicago Sky Girls High School Basketball Team of the Week award winner, the team will be provided a complimentary Team Night Out ticket package to the 2013 Sky Youth Sports Night game at Allstate Arena, where they will have the opportunity to watch the world’s best female basketball players. During the game, they will be honored on court and will receive an award to recognize their accomplishments.
The Sky will recognize a varsity girls high school basketball team of the week award winner every week until March 27. One grand prize winner will be chosen from the winners selected over the 10 weeks and they will be crowned the Under Armour Chicago Sky Girls High School Basketball Team of the Year at the Sky’s Youth Sport Night this summer.
