Join club members on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at Aliano's Ristorante, 90 N. Island Ave. in Batavia, for an Italian lunch and an entertaining and informative program. The Luncheon Committee is pleased to welcome Sue Cox, who is part of a project called "Sewing For Smiles" through Hosanna Lutheran Church where they create sundresses out of pillowcases. The most recent shipment of dresses went to Madagascar, Uganda and Ukraine. This group of volunteers envisions the girls in the dresses, and when they have a dress, they can go to school. Sewing For Smiles is always accepting donations to make the dresses such as: pillowcases (any size, color, condition, used is fine), half-inch elastic, thread (any size/color), any lace and trim, double wide-double fold bias tape, gift cards or 50-percent off coupons for Joanne Fabrics, Hobby Lobby or Walmart. So if anyone is cleaning out her notions cabinet, bring what you can to help this special organization.

It begins at 11:30 a.m. with a meet-and-greet, followed by a noon luncheon and program. The luncheon menu will be: house salad with Italian balsamic vinaigrette, and an entree choice of one of the following: tortellini alla prosciutto, tortellini tossed with mushrooms, peas, onions and prosciutto in a light Alfredo sauce; chicken limone, breast of chicken sautéed with baby spinach and served with a lemon butter sauce; or grouper with lemon butter and white wine served over green beans. Dessert will be tiramisu, homemade layers of espresso-drenched sponge cake divided by mascarpone cheese and dusted with cocoa powder. Dessert, coffee, soda and tea are included.

Price for lunch is $25 and includes coffee, tea, soda, tax and gratuity. Deadline for check is Wednesday, Feb. 13. Write your entree choice on your check and make your check payable to "FVNN." Cancellation of luncheon reservations are accepted up to and through deadline date by phoning Marge at (630) 513-1948. There will be no refunds given after the deadline. If bringing a guest, note her name on check. Mail check to: Marge Kaminky, 908 N. Third Ave., St. Charles, IL 60174.

The Fox Valley Newcomers & Neighbors Club is a social and philanthropic organization for women in the area who are interested in meeting and making new friends through various social and fundraising activities. This year the charity is the Community Crisis Center.

The group meets monthly for a luncheon during the months of September through June. Each monthly meeting includes a meet-and-greet which gives members an opportunity to socialize prior to a short general business meeting, luncheon, and an entertaining and informative program. The luncheons are held at many of the local restaurants in the Fox Valley area, and are open to all current and perspective members and guests with prepaid reservations.

Past programs have included: vintage fashion styles and trends, interior/exterior design ideas, information on subliminal communications and handwriting analysis, wine tastings, learning how to accessorize with the current fashion trends, makeup tips and tricks, learning to organize your clutter, holiday decorating, holistic health care options, and more.

Many members reside in the areas around the Fox Valley, including Aurora, Batavia, Bartlett, Bloomingdale, Campton Hills, Elburn, Elgin, Geneva, Lily Lake, North Aurora, Plainfield, Rockford, St. Charles, South Elgin, Streamwood, Sugar Grove, Sycamore, Wayne, and Winfield.

The annual membership fee of $25 provides you with a membership directory and a monthly newsletter that recaps the upcoming monthly events and activities. If you are new to the area, had a lifestyle change, or are just looking for a friendly, social organization to become involved in, attend one of the monthly meetings.
