ST. CHARLES, IL -- January 23, 2013 -- As dozens die on Chicago streets, lawmakers struggle to stop the carnage through gun-control legislation, additional policing and school reforms. Despite these measures, violence continues unabated. It is because whether present or absent, fathers affect their children for life. The new book, One Father, posits that fatherlessness is both the problem and the solution.

Author, Carl King, admits fatherhood is messy and administered by imperfect men. It is these failures that cause some to question its importance, but we see the pattern of One Father in creation, human history, leadership, statehood and family life. Policy makers, social commentators and agents of change from Martin Luther King Jr. to Daniel Moynahan to Bill Cosby have found this pattern firmly rooted in place.

In Stacey Peralta's documentary, "Crips and Bloods: Made in America" he interviews dozens of former and current gang members. One gang pioneer, Kumasi, says: 'The common thread throughout all these conversations, throughout all of our communities, seems to be the absence of a father, a male-figure, a father figure in the home.' In a book focused on healing for a divided nation, the author examines our relationship with Father God, Uncle Sam, community leaders and our family leaders. He uses fatherhood as the lens. One Father is available through major online retailers such as Amazon and through its publisher, WestBow Press (a division of Thomas Nelson).
