Gift of 90-minute “local shopping spree” given to employees

In lieu of a traditional company Christmas party, DDK Kitchen Design Group went on a “Shop Local” shopping spree. Each member of their design team was given $400 in debit cards with just 2 stipulations. The purchases could only be used to buy gifts for them and they had 90 minutes to spend all the money.

“These designers have earned this,”says Dan Thompson, owner and President of DDK Kitchen Design Group in Glenview, “It has been a challenging couple of years. They have honed their design and sales skills which have helped them endure and now prosper as the economy has rebounded. I appreciate their hard work and loyalty to me and DDK.”

“The special day started with a quick lunch for our 7 designers at Michael Salernos in the Glen Town Center. He does a lot for the community,” stated Thompson. “The food is great, and he's a small business owner like me.” Most of the shopping damage was done in Von Maur. Other stops included Hot Momma, Dicks, and Vintage Nest. “It was fun to watch the girls go into power shopping mode given the time allotment.”

“I believe it is critical,” added Thompson, “that everyone shops locally. Buying from local merchants keeps downtown areas vibrant and attracts additional new businesses. It also keeps sales tax dollars in the community.”

DDK Kitchen Design Group has been designing and selling kitchens in Glenview since 1978. They recently opened their second store in Wilmette at the corner of Ridge and Wilmette.
