Police: Pickup truck driver at fault for Palatine school bus crash
The 35-year-old man whose pickup truck collided with a school bus Tuesday afternoon in Palatine — sending three students to the hospital with minor injuries — was at fault, authorities said.
Ignacio Gonzalez-Perez, of the 1500 block of Winslowe Drive in Palatine, was cited for failure to yield while turning, driving without a valid drivers license and having no valid insurance, Cook County Sheriff's spokesman Frank Bilecki said Wednesday. He's due in court Jan 3 in Rolling Meadows.
Bilecki said Gonzalez-Perez pulled out in front of the school bus about 4:20 p.m. Tuesday while exiting a parking lot near North Frontage Road and Bayside Drive.
The bus was carrying 25 students from Winston Campus Junior High on their way home from extracurricular activities.
Gonzalez-Perez and one student were transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Two other students were taken to Alexian Brothers in Elk Grove Village. All suffered minor injuries and have been released, Bilecki said.
Palatine Township Elementary District 15 officials said the bus driver wasn't injured.
The Palatine Fire Department responded to the scene and was assisted by the Long Grove Fire Department.
