Woodland Middle School Jazz Band members will travel to Vernon Hills for a special performance at 7 p.m. Dec. 17 in the dining court of Westfield Hawthorn Mall, 122 Hawthorn Center. The students will perform a range of holiday songs that include "Jingle Bell Boogie", "Holiday Joy", "Let it Snow!" and "Frosty the Snowman". This unique idea to perform for holiday shoppers transpired as students began to rehearse for a January concert. Band Director Carolyn Awe quickly realized after seeing the students' enthusiasm that waiting until the new year would not suffice. It was through a student's suggestion that she contacted Hawthorn Mall. For information, contact Awe (847) 856-3400.
