Help food pantry at Festival of Trees in Lake in the Hills

Submitted by Lake in the Hills Parks and Recreation Department

Each holiday season, the Lake in the Hills Village Hall, 600 Harvest Gate, is transformed into a winter wonderland. Through the Festival of Trees event, the Parks and Recreation Department spearheads one of the year's largest food drives to help local food pantries bring Christmas cheer to area residents.

The annual Festival of Trees will kick off with the traditional Santa Ride Friday, Dec. 7. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by fire truck at 6 p.m. to perform the tree-lighting ceremony then stay to hear the Christmas wishes of little girls and boys.

After viewing the decorated trees on display, spectators can “vote” by placing nonperishable household items under their favorite tree. Voting and donations accepted at the village hall through Monday, Dec. 17, and trees will remain on display through Dec. 25 to allow for ample time to “vote.”

All items collected during this event will be donated to the Lake in the Hills/Algonquin Food Pantry and the Grafton Township Food Pantry, whose dedication to helping local residents in need is especially appreciated during the holiday season. Call the Lake in the Hills Parks & Recreation Department at (847) 960-7460 with any questions.
