Mundelein man charged in fatal Round Lake crash

A Mundelein man faces alcohol-related charges in a crash that killed a 24-year-old Round Lake Beach woman last week, authorities said Tuesday.

Mark Oelerich, 22, of the 100 block of Sylvan Road, has been charged with aggravated driving under the influence of alcohol that resulted in death. He remains in Lake County jail on $1 million bond following his arrest Saturday, authorities said.

Round Lake Police said an officer came upon the head-on crash on Cedar Lake Road near Route 120 at 9:17 p.m. Wednesday.

Authorities said Oelerich was driving north on Cedar Lake Road when he struck the vehicle driven by Araceli Villasenor as it was heading south on Cedar Lake Road.

Villasenor and three children inside the vehicle were taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where Villasenor was pronounced dead at 11:23 p.m.

Oelerich was treated at the hospital, but later released, Round Lake police said. The conditions of the children were not released by police Wednesday.

According to court records, Oelerich was also cited for improper lane usage, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident and speeding.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Ken LaRue refused to comment about the crash and charges Tuesday.

Round Lake Police officials said the accident is under investigation and more charges could be filed against Oelerich at a later date.

Police are also asking anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact them at (847) 546-8112.
