Lake County Sheriff's deputies are investigating a fatal one-car crash that occurred near Gurnee early Saturday morning.
Deputies said Michael Smith, 25, of North Elmwood Avenue in Waukegan, was traveling southbound on Route 41 at 3:46 a.m. when, for an unknown reason, he lost control of his vehicle and it collided with two trees south of Route 21.

Smith was pronounced dead at the scene after Gurnee firefighters arrived, authorities said.
Deputies said it has not been determined how fast the vehicle was going, but the roads were dry at the time of the crash.
