Endorsement: Shaw over Drury for 58th House District

Voters for Illinois House District 58 have two knowledgeable candidates to choose from to represent their views in Springfield. Republican Mark Shaw of Lake Forest and Democrat Scott Drury of Highwood are both newcomers to this race, although Shaw is not new to politics. He has held two offices — West Deerfield Township Republican Chairman and 10th District Republican State Central Committeeman. Both candidates have impressive resumes as attorneys, and both men have a good handle on the issues facing their district and the state. They want to help the local economy by bringing businesses and jobs back to Illinois. They call for fiscal responsibility from Illinois government, truth in budgeting. And, they offer solid solutions to fix the pension problem. Shaw, though, says he would make repealing the tax increase a top priority if elected — something he’s found important to small businesses and voters in his district. He has his finger on the pulse of his district’s concerns, and that paired with his political experience and impressive civic involvement, gives him our endorsement. The 58th District runs along the Lake Michigan from north of Lake Bluff south to Highland Park.
