Oak Brook doctor charged with fraud

An Oak Brook doctor is facing federal fraud charges after investigators accused him of filing false claims with Medicare and private insurance companies.

Prosecutors said 55-year-old dermatologist Robert Kolbusz who operated out of an office in Downers Grove falsely diagnosed patients with potentially cancerous sun-induced skin lesions and billed Medicare and private insurers for treatments that were “ineffective.”

The indictment alleges Kolbusz engaged in the false documentation between 2003 and 2010. Prosecutors said Kolbusz “falsely documented the removal of more than 1,000 lesions from patients over several years of treatment.”

Kolbusz could not be reached for comment.

If convicted, Kolbusz faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years.
