Medicare increase was exaggerated

In the Sunday, Aug. 19, issue of the Daily Herald Mr. Morrissey of Huntley indicated Plan B of Medicare will rise in cost to $247 per person per month in two years from the current $96. As a Medicare recipient also, I decided to make an attempt to verify that information and found Mr. Morrissey’s information to be highly inaccurate.

I invite readers to visit two websites: www.truthorfiction.com/rumors/m/medicare-premiums.htm and www.medicare.gov/cost/ to get a better understanding of current and projected costs. The Truth or Fiction website is especially important because it refers to an email hoax that began circulating in 2010 expressing that the monthly cost would be $247 in 2014.

It should also be mentioned that monthly costs are dependent upon Medicare members’ reported gross income and age. The higher the income, the higher the cost.

I am not affiliated in any way with Medicare or the federal government.
