Victim identified in Schaumburg motorcycle crash

A 37-year-old man killed Friday afternoon in a fiery motorcycle wreck in Schaumburg was identified Saturday as Mariusz Zajac of Elk Grove Village, authorities said.

Zajac was killed when the motorcycle he was riding collided with a van at 4:53 p.m. at the corner of Meacham and Old Schaumburg roads, causing the bike to go up in flames, according to Schaumburg police. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said preliminary information suggests Zajac was traveling on northbound Meacham and struck the right side of the van, which was turning from southbound Meacham to eastbound Old Schaumburg.

The van was driven by a 21-year-old Chicago man. He and an adult female passenger from Chicago were treated at the scene for minor injuries.

No citations were issued and the accident is still under investigation.
