Barrington man found dead in vehicle on Route 53

A 49-year-old Barrington man was found dead in a vehicle on the shoulder of Route 53 near Palatine Road late Thursday afternoon.

An Illinois State Police trooper came across a running vehicle on the right shoulder of Route 53 north of Palatine Road at 4:49 p.m. and found an unresponsive man in the front seat, said Master Sgt. Pelletier.

Richard Himes was the only person in the vehicle and was unresponsive when the trooper arrived, police said.

The trooper forced his way into the vehicle and was unable to feel a pulse on Himes.

He was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a Cook County medical examiner’s office spokesman.

There were no immediate signs of trauma on Himes, according to the medical examiner’s office, and police said there is no indication of foul play.

The cause of death was undetermined as of Thursday night. An autopsy is scheduled for Friday.

Illinois State Police classified the case as a “suspicious death investigation.”
