Schaumburg man gets jail, probation in child sex case
A Schaumburg man accused of soliciting sex from who he believed was a 14-year-old girl has been sentenced to a month in jail and 30 months of probation.
Roberto R. Rodriguez, 36, of the 1900 block of Gary Court, also must register as a sex offender after pleading guilty to felony grooming, according to DuPage County court records. Judge Blanche Hill Fawell imposed the sentence.
Carol Stream police arrested Rodriguez in July 2011 after an online undercover investigation in which an officer posed as a 14-year-old girl on Craigslist. Police said Rodriguez arranged a meeting for “sexual favors” and was charged when he arrived for that meeting in Carol Stream.
“This guy was right up front and said what he wanted,” Cmdr. Ken George said in July.
Two Carol Stream detectives trained by the Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children task force conducted the operation.
In exchange for Rodriguez’s plea last week, prosecutors dismissed charges of attempted aggravated criminal sexual assault and traveling to meet a minor, court records show.
Rodriguez had no prior history of sex offenses, police said. He has been ordered to report to jail Sept. 14.
