Bartlett teen charged with eluding Elgin cops

A teenage girl from Bartlett faces a lengthy list of charges in Elgin that involve leading police on a high-speed chase early Thursday morning, driving under the influence of both alcohol and marijuana — all while driving on a learner’s permit, police said.

Caitlin M. Hill, 17, of the 1500 block of Derby Lane, is being charged as an adult for the chain of events that police say began at 1:13 a.m.

According to reports, she eluded police on eastbound Route 20 and on Elgin’s east side, disobeyed three stop signs and ran her mother’s car into a mailbox, a utility box and a utility pole. At that point, she attempted to run away but was arrested later in the 500 block of Lucille Avenue, police said.

Police found 0.1 grams of marijuana on Hill and an open bottle of watermelon vodka in the car, reports said. Hill also posted a blood alcohol level of 0.153 percent, nearly twice the legal limit, reports said.

Hill admitted to drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana three hours before she was stopped, police said.

She was charged with aggravated DUI and aggravated fleeing and eluding police, both of which are felonies. She also was charged with the following misdemeanors: underage drinking, underage alcohol possession, resisting police, reckless driving, a DUI for alcohol, a DUI for having both alcohol and drugs in her system, driving without a license and marijuana possession. Her bail was set Friday morning at $75,000, and her next court date is Sept. 12.

If found guilty of one of the felonies, she could spend between one and three years in prison.
