Krons Foods sponsors annual ‘Free Gyros Day”

Glendale Heights-based Kronos Foods, Inc., a manufacturer of premium Gyros and other Mediterranean specialty food items, will host the fourth annual “Kronos Free Gyros Day” on Aug. 28.

The event also encourages consumers to “Help Yourself & You Can Help a Hero,” by posting Fisher House Foundation donation boxes at more than 50 restaurants participating in Kronos Free Gyros Day.

The Fisher House Foundation is an organization enabling military family members to be close to a loved one at the most stressful times — during the hospitalization for an unexpected illness, disease or injury. Chicagoland’s Fisher House, located on the campus of the Edward Hines Jr. VA Hospital in suburban Hines, will benefit from Kronos Free Gyros donations.

During the past three Free Gyros Day events, Kronos has given away nearly 100,000 free gyros to consumers, and Chicagoans have donated close to $10,000 to Fisher House Foundation. On Sept. 25, the top four restaurants, whose customers raise the most money for the Fisher House Foundation, will give a free Kronos T-shirt to the first 100 customers who order a gyros sandwich. The top four restaurants will be announced through Facebook, Twitter and the Kronos website.

“We are so proud to be entering the fourth year of Kronos Free Gyros Day, where we can partner the popularity of gyros with the importance of giving back to the military and their families,” says Howard Eirinberg, president, Kronos Foods, Inc.  “When many are experiencing hard times, we’re thrilled to be able to provide our loyal gyros fans with a free sandwich and we are confident they’ll pay it forward and show their deep gratitude by contributing to our local Fisher House.”

It is easy to get a “Free Kronos Gyros Day” sandwich. Go to: www.KronosFreeGyros.com, complete the required fields, select a restaurant to visit, then download and print a free gyros sandwich coupon. Then stop into your chosen restaurant on Aug. 28, present your coupon for “Kronos Free Gyros Day.”  While you are out enjoying your free Kronos gyros don’t forget to support the military and their families by giving to the Fisher House donation boxes.

Traditionally known as a Greek sandwich, a gyros is made with selected beef and lamb meat seasoned with zesty spices, thinly sliced and piled high onto a fluffy handmade flatbread pita. Gyros can be enjoyed many different ways, but is usually topped with onions and tomatoes, as well as a flavorful creamy cucumber sauce called tzatziki or gyros sauce.
