Asian buffet to fill Old Country Buffet location in Rolling Meadows

A new buffet may be opening soon in Rolling Meadows in the same location where Old Country Buffet closed in March, village officials said.

Flaming Grill & Supreme Buffet has submitted plans for the former Old Country Buffet location at 1440 Golf Road, said Valerie Dehner, community development director.

The new restaurant will have a mixture of Japanese and Chinese cuisine in a buffet style, said Mayor Tom Rooney.

Old Country Buffet closed in late March after its Minnesota-based parent company Buffets Inc. filed for bankruptcy for the third time since 2008.

Several other suburban Old Country Buffets have closed this year, including those in Naperville, Joliet, Lombard and West Dundee.

Rooney said the restaurant’s coming is another bit of positive economic news for Rolling Meadows.

“When you’re reeling from having a number of closings in town that have been fairly high-profile, to be able to fill one of them again relatively quickly is great,” he said. “And you can’t ask for a better setup here because it was already a buffet.”

Rooney said he wasn’t sure when the restaurant will open, but he thought maybe in September or October.
