Elgin man killed in Marengo crash

A 27-year-old man from Elgin was killed late Thursday after his van left the side of the road, rolled over, and hit some trees, authorities said Friday morning.

Members of the McHenry County Sheriff’s Department and Marengo Fire/Rescue responded to a single vehicle crash in the 6700 block of Route 20 in unincorporated Coral Township at 11:55 p.m. Thursday, authorities said in a news release Friday.

A preliminary investigation shows a 2010 Ford E-250 van was traveling westbound on Route 20 when it left the right side of the roadway, crossed back onto the road, off the left side of the road and into a ditch, where it rolled over and hit several trees.

Angel Bahena, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene due to the impact of the accident, authorities said. He was not wearing a seat belt and the front air bags had deployed.

Officials said the crash remains under investigation by the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office Accident Investigations Unit and the McHenry County Coroner’s Office.
