A man on a bicycle was killed when he was struck by a Metra train while attempting to cross the tracks in Hanover Park Monday morning, officials said.

The man, who Metra officials said was approximately 30 years old, was crossing from the outbound to inbound platform when he was struck at about 6:30 a.m.

Inbound train No. 2208 was not scheduled to stop at the Hanover Park station, said Metra spokeswoman Meg Reile.

Officials were still in the process of notifying the victim's family Monday night, and were withholding his name. Metra officials said initial indications were that it was an accident.

#8220;Coroner will have the final ruling, but it is not looking like anything else,#8221; Reile said.

Inbound and outbound Milwaukee District West Line trains were stopped immediately following the accident, and experienced delays of about an hour Monday morning.
