A 16-year-old Algonquin boy will be charged as an adult following his arrest for criminal sexual assault, authorities said Friday.

The victim, an 18-year-old female, told police Thursday morning about the assault, which took place at her home on the 200 block of Peterson Parkway in Crystal Lake. She said the boy is a family acquaintance, and he had been allowed access to the home, according to Crystal Lake police.

He is being held at the Kane County Juvenile Justice Center in St. Charles.
