Shoe collection project:

The students of Woodland Elementary West are again participating in the “Nike Grind” shoe collection as part of an all-school Earth Day project. Last year, students collected 634 pairs of used gym shoes to recycle as part of the reuse-a-shoe project. Shoes collected will be taken to Gold’s Gym in Gurnee that serves as a drop-off site for the Nike Grind project. Gold’s Gym staff will work with students from Warren Township High School to sort and prepare the shoes for pick up by the Nike corporation. The soles of the shoes are ground up and made into tracks, playgrounds and gym floors. Shoes will be collected through April 20.
