'Bill' paid the rent with Northbrook site

Northbrook-based WilliamPaid.com is looking to move into larger offices this spring and add more employees as it offers consumers a chance to pay their rent online.

The site launched about a year ago and introduced a redesign last February, giving apartment dwellers a chance to pay their rent with credit or debit cards or through an automatic withdrawal from a bank account, said partner Jeff Golding.

"We're cutting out the stamps and envelopes and the mailing time," Golding said. "The site offers you flexibility. If you don't have the cash flow, you can set up pay options that help."

That means you can take part of the rent out of your checking account and another part from a credit card, he said.

"And the landlord doesn't need to be registered to the site. He'll still get paid," Golding explained.

WilliamPaid.com, otherwise known as Bill Paid, allows renters to use their checking, savings or money market account to pay each month. Credit and debit cards also are accepted, but fees may be added.

In addition, renters could have their payments reported to credit reporting agencies in order to keep track of their credit scores, Golding said.

"The system also provides alerts and reminders to make it easier," Golding said.
