Vernon Hills singer to appear on “The Voice”

Viewers of "The Voice" may see a familiar face Monday night as Jamie Thompson, 22, of Vernon Hills is poised to make his national singing debut during his audition on the NBC singing-reality show.

Thompson, a 2007 graduate of Vernon Hills High School, has been singing for several years and has covers of popular oldies and original songs on his YouTube and Facebook pages, where he goes by the stage name Jamie Lono.

Because of the agreement with NBC, Thompson can't say how he did in his audition, and NBC does not confirm that anyone is on the show until after it has aired. However, an NBC promotion for the show contains a clip of him onstage and talking with one of the celebrity mentors, Cee Lo Green.

"I make sandwiches for a living," Thompson tells the panel of celebrity judges made up of Christina Aguilera, Blake Shelton, Adam Levin and Green. Thompson works at Potbelly Sandwich Works in Vernon Hills.

"I eat sandwiches!" exclaims Green, adding maybe Thompson should join his team.

"The Voice" is in its second season on NBC and features musicians competing against one another with one of the four celebrity judges as their mentor throughout the show.

Viewers will have to tune in to NBC at 7 p.m. Monday to find out if Thompson's audition gets him to the next round and which celebrity will be his mentor.
