Benedictine student accused of soliciting minor

A 19-year-old Benedictine University student was arrested Friday after authorities said he arranged to have sex with a 13-year-old girl — though when he showed up, police were waiting to take him into custody.

Andrew Franchett, of the 5700 block of College Avenue in Lisle, made contact online Thursday with detectives from the Carol Stream Police Department, who were posing as the 13-year-old girl. Franchett made arrangements to have sex with the girl at a predetermined location Friday, authorities said.

He faces felony charges of indecent solicitation of a minor, grooming, and traveling to meet a minor. He is due in bond court Saturday morning.

Carol Stream police, with the assistance of the attorney general’s Illinois Internet Crimes Against Children task force, have been regularly working on cases involving solicitation and possession of child pornography.
