Bond set at $1 million in fatal I-290 crash

Bond was set at $1 million Sunday for a Chicago man charged in a car crash that injured an Illinois state trooper and killed a Brookfield man.

Daniel C. Clark, 32, of Chicago, appeared via camera in DuPage County bond court on Sunday morning. Authorities say that he drove his car early Saturday into a parked Illinois State Police squad car, killing 42-year-old Frank S. Caruso and hurting a state trooper, both of whom were sitting inside in the car.

Clark has been charged with one count of aggravated DUI involving death and one count of aggravated DUI involving great bodily harm.

The accident occurred shortly after 1 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 290 east of Mill Road in Addison. Authorities say that Caruso was warming up in the squad car after his SUV was involved in a minor accident. Family members said Caruso had recently moved to Brookfield from the Oak Brook area.

The trooper is expected to recover from his injuries.
