Alexian Brothers receives $1 million donation

Canadian National, one of the largest railroads in North America with extensive operations in Chicago’s suburbs, has donated $1 million to the Alexian Brothers Foundation to support construction of Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital in Hoffman Estates.

CN made the donation in keeping with its long-standing tradition of supporting children’s hospitals in communities it serves, according to a news release.

In recognition of the donation, Alexian Brothers Health System has renamed its EmergiKids emergency-care program for children as CN EmergiKids. The program offers separate emergency rooms for kids at St. Alexius and Alexian Brothers Medical Center in Elk Grove Village. The CN EmergiKids area at St. Alexius will be physically connected to Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital.

“CN has a history of supporting children’s hospitals where it operates, so the new Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital was a natural fit,” says Melanie Furlan, vice president of the Alexian Brothers Foundation. “We’re very grateful for the support.”

The Alexian Brothers Children’s Hospital project kicked off with a groundbreaking last May on the campus of St. Alexius Medical Center. The $117 million facility is expected to be completed by the second quarter of 2013.
