Veterinary Specialty Center in Buffalo Grove adopted seven Palatine Township families for the 2011 Palatine Township Adopt-A-Family program. The gifts were delivered to Palatine Township in December by the staff of VSC.

“Our staff is always happy to help those in need, even when they only have two legs,” said Evelyn Feekin, VSC’s practice administrator.

VSC has participated in other Adopt-A-Family programs throughout the years, but wanted to keep it local this time around by participating in the Palatine Township program.

“With the hustle and bustle of the holiday season, those that are less fortunate are often forgotten. We wanted to make sure that we were doing our part to keep them in mind this holiday season,” said Melissa Hecker, VSC’s client service coordinator.

The Palatine Township Adopt-A-Family program has grown since 2010. According to the Palatine Township, last year over 300 families received gifts.

The Palatine Township Adopt-A-Family program provides new clothing, toys and gifts during the holiday season to low-income families who are referred to the Palatine Township by local social workers. The program concluded on December 10 with all gifts delivered to the participating families.

“The families were extremely grateful,” said Christine Favia, community outreach coordinator for Palatine Township.

Though the Palatine Township Adopt-A-Family program is complete, Palatine Township would like to remind the public that they are always accepting donations for those in the community that are in need.

“If your heart is prompting you to do more throughout the year, we have the Needy Family Fund that accepts monetary donations for township residents who need assistance with emergencies,” Favia said.

For more information on how you can help, contact Christine Favia at (847) 358-6700, ext. 6161, or email cfavia@palatinetownship.com. Visit Palatine Township’s website at www.palatinetownship.com for additional information.
