Streamwood seeking armed robber after restaurant holdup

Streamwood police are investigating an armed robbery Tuesday night inside a restaurant in the 1000 block of Schaumburg Road.

Deputy Police Chief James Keegan said a male Hispanic with a thin build and standing between 5-feet, 3-inches and 5-feet, 5-inches tall, entered the Burrito Bronco Restaurant about 7:30 p.m., pointed a handgun at two employees and demanded money.

The man reportedly put a dark navy shirt on the counter and told the employees they had 10 to 15 seconds to put all the restaurant's money in the shirt. When the cash register was emptied into the shirt, the man reportedly asked the employees, “Is that all you got?” and they said yes.

The man then told the employees to lie down on the floor and count to 10. They told police they heard him leave through the front door, but because they were on the floor could not see which direction he went.

Employees told police the man was dressed all in black and had a black bandanna covering his mouth and nose. The offender also was wearing a baseball cap to help conceal his identity, police said.

No one was injured in the robbery, Keegan said. Officers attempted to track the offender with the help of a K-9 unit, but the dog did not locate him, Keegan added.

Police are trying to determine if the robbery is linked to similar crimes reported in Hanover Park and Roselle Tuesday night.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Streamwood Police Department at (630) 837-0953.
