Police seek motorcyclists Elk Grove cop was chasing before crash

Police are asking for help locating two motorcyclists who fled a Elk Grove Village officer Monday night in a pursuit that ended with the officer crashing his motorcycle.

The officer was attempting to stop two high-performance motorcycles that were traveling north on Martingale about two-thirds of a mile south of Schaumburg Road when he lost control and left the roadway, according to Schaumburg police.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene around 6:45 p.m. and found the officer lying in the roadway, police said.

He was taken to Alexian Brothers Medical Center, where he remains hospitalized with serious injuries, according to police.

Both motorcycles were described as dark in color. Both drivers were wearing dark leather jackets, and one driver wore a helmet with a mohawk on top, according to police. The drivers were last seen northbound on Martingale into Schaumburg between 6:40 p.m. and 6:45 p.m. Monday.

Martingale Road was shut down from the time of the crash until about 11 p.m. while an accident reconstruction team investigated, officials said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Schaumburg police at (847) 882-3534.
