Bloomingdale cops nab three in failed rooftop burglary

Bloomingdale police arrested three men on burglary charges after they broke into a discount clothing store through a roof hatch, authorities said Friday.

Officers responded to a silent alarm at Ross Dress for Less, 350 W. Army Trail Road, at 12:40 a.m. Thursday. Police said they found two suspects behind a garbage bin near the building, and the third hiding in a sprinkler room close by.

The trio told investigators they carried out a series of small burglaries in their hometown of Roselle, but wanted to “go big” by breaking into the Best Buy store just west of Ross Dress for Less in Bloomingdale Court shopping center, police said. “Ultimately they were only able to gain entry to the business next door, but they were willing to settle for whatever they could get,” Bloomingdale Police Cmdr. Tim Roberts said.

Roberts said one of the men, Danny Sneed, 18, shimmied a pipe to the roof and opened the hatch with a crowbar while Jeremy Kline, 19, and Jesse Leckner, 18, acted as lookouts. Police arrested the threesome after setting up a perimeter, he said.

“The immediate response of the officers and the setting up of a perimeter were instrumental in solving the case,” Roberts said.

Police later obtained recorded confessions from the men, according to Roberts. He said the reported burglaries in Roselle were under investigation.

All three suspects remained in DuPage County jail Friday afternoon. They each would have to post $5,000 to be released.
