Furstenau seeks DuPage County Board seat

Former Naperville City Councilman Richard R. “Dick” Furstenau announced Saturday that he will run for a DuPage County Board seat during the March 20 Republican primary.

Furstenau, 67, is hoping to represent District 5, which includes parts of Aurora, Naperville, Lisle and Warrenville.

In a news release, Furstenau said promoting sound financial management in government will be the focus of his campaign.

“Serving and protecting the taxpayer and accounting for every dollar spent should be the county board’s first priority,” he said. “And it certainly is mine.”

Furstenau served as a Naperville city councilman for 12 years, but did not win re-election in April.

During that time, he built a reputation as a fiscal conservative, questioning the need for city expenditures and their cost, he said. Furstenau now serves on the DuPage Water Commission and said he is working to “ensure that the water commission is operating on a sound fiscal basis going forward.”

Furstenau has lived in Naperville for 34 years with his wife, Connie. He has five children and 13 grandchildren. He is retired from a 33-year career as a manufacturing and purchasing director for Western Electric and AT&T.
