Good Shepherd hosts Art in the Barn this weekend

The 37th Art in the Barn will be held Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 24 and 25, on the grounds of Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital, 450 W. Route 22, Barrington.

The Jury of Selection has chosen more than 170 artists to present fine art in a variety of media. The experienced and knowledgeable jury — Sandra Bacon of Lake Bluff, Fred DeAsis, Chicago, and Terri Murphy, Chicago — reviewed the works of more than 200 applicants.

“Most of the top 10 and Best of Show from 2010 will be there,” said Kerin Montgomery, chair of the Artist Committee.

Photographer Justin Lanier of Inverness, a junior at Fremd High School, is one of the youngest artists juried in an Art in the Barn event. Justin says he's been carrying a camera since he was 8 years old.

Sponsored by the Auxiliary of the hospital, Art in the Barn appeals to all ages. Besides browsing the many indoor and outdoor art exhibits, visitors can check out a brat tent and other food vendors, children can participate in art activities and pony rides, and entertaining groups will perform about every hour.

Admission is $5; children 12 and under are free; parking is free.

Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days. No pets allowed. For more information call (847) 381-2094.

The Auxiliary donates net proceeds to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital.
