Rain cancels several suburban events

Sunday’s rain, while not of the catastrophic variety, did spoil a few suburban events planned for the day.

West Chicago’s Mexican Independence Day Celebration — which was supposed to be a full day of live music, arts and crafts, cultural exhibits and more — was canceled Sunday due to inclement weather. Notice was up by early afternoon on the city’s website and in the downtown area near the festival site. Village leaders could not be reached for comment Sunday.

In West Dundee, officials canceled the parade that was part of the annual Heritage Fest in Grafelman Park. Late Sunday afternoon, West Dundee police officials said that aside from the canceled parade, most other Heritage Fest events were expected to continue as planned. Heritage Fest began Friday.

In Batavia, the weather forced the cancellation of a skateboarding competition. The good news is that the event has been rescheduled for Sunday, Sept. 25, at Blackard Skate-and-Bike Park, 411 S. River St., Batavia. For information, go to bataviaparks.org.
