Mount Prospect library to host New Parent Expo

Doula Samantha Trebilcock will be one of the parenting experts on hand to talk to new and expectant parents when the Mount Prospect Public Library, 10 S. Emerson St., Mount Prospect, holds its free New Parent Expo from 1 to 3 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 10.

The educational expo will feature representatives from such organizations as Northwest Community Hospital, the La Leche League, Pathways Center, Beneficial Bodywork, Square One Organics, Children’s Home and Aid and SIDS of Illinois, Inc., arranged in a convention format where those interested can walk from table to table speaking to experts and gathering information, according to Carolynn Muci, marketing/public relations director of the library.

The experts are expected to offer attendees information on everything from soothing a fussy baby to choosing the right toys, and from using sign language with your baby to identifying developmental milestones. One booth will even offer suggestions for preparing your pet for the new baby.

In addition, half-hour seminars on “Safe Sleep for Babies,” provided by SIDS of Illinois, and “Superfoods for Babies,” provided by Square One Organics, will be held at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m., respectively. And a car seat safety check, sponsored by Randhurst Village, will be held outside from noon to 4 p.m.

All attendees will also have the opportunity to participate in raffle drawings for baby-themed prizes and the first 75 families through the door will receive a free gift.

No registration is necessary. For more information, call (847) 253-5675 and ask for Youth Services.
