Elgin, Schaumburg host free foreclosure seminars

The foreclosure epidemic in the United States is showing no sign of slowing down, with millions of Americans “under water” on their mortgage, owing more than their home is worth.

To educate homeowners about the options that are available, the Neighborhood Community Foundation will conduct free foreclosure prevention workshops in:

Ÿ Elgin, 7-9 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Comfort Suites, 2480 Bush Wood Drive.

Ÿ Schaumburg, 7-9 p.m. Sept. 14 at the Comfort Suites, 1100 E. Higgins Road.

Another workshop will be held in Bolingbrook on Sept. 21; time and place to be determined. A list of times and locations for the workshops can be found at http://neighborhood-community.org/free-workshops/illinois/.

Covered at the workshops are:

Ÿ Loan modifications — effective techniques that work.

Ÿ Federal foreclosure programs HAMP and HAFA.

Ÿ Loan audits — how to identify paperwork fraud or loan violations.

Ÿ Lender paybacks — are you eligible to receive one?

Ÿ Buy more time in your home — simple steps to postpone your move.

Ÿ Protecting yourself against foreclosure predators.

Ÿ County agency resources.

Ÿ Real legal defenses
