Palatine man guilty of selling 2 kilos of cocaine

A 29-year-old Palatine man was found guilty Wednesday of delivering two kilograms of cocaine to an undercover Elgin police officer and could face up to 60 years in prison, according to prosecutors.

Elauterio Pacheco, whose last known address was on the 600 block of East Baldwin Road, had been held in Kane County jail since he was arrested on Sept. 10, 2009, in lieu of $2 million bail.

A Kane County jury found him guilty of one count of unlawful delivery of a controlled substance, a conviction that holds a sentence of between 15 and 60 years in prison.

Authorities said Pacheco and co-defendant Raul Lara, 25, delivered two kilograms of cocaine to the officer and expected to receive $59,000, but instead were placed under arrest on the spot.

Lara agreed to a sentence of 15 years in prison in exchange for a guilty plea on April 23, 2010, according to the Kane County state’s attorney’s office.

Pacheco is due in court for a sentencing hearing on Oct. 11.
