Mt. Prospect prepares to welcome Walk for the Cure

Mount Prospect is preparing to cheer on the second day of the Susan G. Komen 3-Day Walk for the Cure on Saturday, Aug. 6, just as it does every year.

The walkers, dedicating to eradicating breast cancer, will enter Mount Prospect at Golf Road and Route 83 around 8 a.m., and proceed northwest toward Melas Park. The walkers re-enter Mount Prospect at Euclid Avenue and Route 83 (Elmhurst Road) and proceed east toward Wolf Road.

The village is organizing blocks along the way to show appreciation to the walkers. Residents might be committed for as little as an hour or for up to three hours. The walk is expected to end about 5 p.m.

Day two is the hardest for the walkers as the adrenaline rush from day one has worn off and the end is nowhere in sight. Help the walkers by “adopting a block” — your family, church, school or neighborhood can create a decorated area where you can provide music or refreshments, or just smiling faces and applause to the hardworking and dedicated walkers.

There are no fees to be a spectator. For more information and to be assigned a block, contact Tarina Wimmer at (847) 269-6277 or email the Mount Prospect Special Events Commission at thinkpinkinmp@gmail.com.
