Woodland Educational Foundation golf fundraiser

Golfers can have some fun while helping provide extras to students and staff at Gurnee-based Woodland Elementary District 50.

Woodland Educational Foundation is sponsoring its fifth annual golf outing Thursday, July 21, at Geneva National Golf Club in Lake Geneva, Wis.

It’s one of two major fundraisers for the nonprofit foundation. Last year, about $18,000 was raised at the golf outing.

Money raised will be used to help support the needs of students and staff at District 50, including items such as a high-tech version of a blackboard connected to a computer, iPads, materials to enhance literacy development, software and playground equipment for students with special needs.

Anyone interested in participating or donating money toward the event may contact Ken Detina at (847) 561-7457.

Woodland Educational Foundation was established in 2006. A team of Woodland staff and community members collaborated to establish a foundation that would creatively generate and distribute resources with which to enrich and enhance the opportunities of educational experiences of district students.

The foundation’s intent is to create a mechanism to receive and disperse funds, properties and gifts of any kind to benefit the students and staff for innovative projects, student scholarships, support for supplemental projects and technology.
